HEAD OF SCHOOL – VINCENT ACADEMY, an Oakland, California charter elementary school Overview Vincent Academy (www.vincentacademy.org), a charter elementary school located in the heart of West Oakland, California, offers an outstanding education, grounded in scholarship, compassion and resilience. The school is founded on the belief that academic success is attainable for all students. Vincent Academy is the cornerstone program of Partners in Oakland Education, a nonprofit organization that aims to develop a range of programs to encourage the transformation of West Oakland. Vincent Academy combines a rigorous academic curriculum, with an emphasis on the arts, and a broad program of support for students and their families. The school offers extended hours daily (7 am to 6 pm) and a full summer program.
Student Population The school opened in 2011 with a total of 60 students in two kindergarten classes and one first grade. We will add second grade in the 2012-13 academic year, and anticipate 2012 enrollment to be approximately 110 students.
Vincent Academy serves children with a broad range of ethnic backgrounds, with the vast majority from low-income families. Nearly two-thirds of our students live in the neighborhood in which the school is located.
The Head of School reports directly to the Board of Directors. The Head of School is the instructional and inspirational leader, charged with encouraging, supporting, and guiding all stakeholders in fulfillment of the vision for the School.
